Eastern Connecticut Transportation Consortium, Inc.
Our mission is to promote the coordination and consolidation of paratransit services for persons of low-income, elderly and disabled individuals in eastern Connecticut.
The NEST Program is a voucher based transportation service that can provide limited subsidized taxi, livery or wheelchair accessible rides based on your transportation need for qualified seniors residing in northeastern Connecticut. (Individuals residing in nursing or long term care facilities do not qualify for this program.)
The purpose of this program is to provide an accessible transportation alternative when existing transit services are not able to meet your transportation need. This service will allow individuals greater flexibility and help to maintain their independence.
See the service area map on this brochure for eligible towns noted in yellow.
The NEST Program is operated by the Eastern Connecticut Transportation Consortium, Inc. (ECTC) and is supported by the Senior Resources Agency on Aging with Title III Funds made available under the Older Americans Act. Program is contingent upon available funding.
How the Service Works:
Enrolled participants are able to obtain free travel vouchers to be used to subsidize metered fares charged by transportation providers who have contracted with ECTC for this program.
Participants are encouraged to utilize existing transportation when available, i.e. fixed route, ADA paratransit, medical dial-a-ride service, volunteer driver, senior transportation programs, etc.
How to Receive Vouchers:
Eligible participants can call 860-848-5911 to speak with a representative that will assist with the enrollment and voucher ordering process. E.C.T.C. is not liable for lost or stolen vouchers.
To arrange a trip with a transportation provider, participants will select one from the designated provider list on the back of this brochure for each one-way trip. Participants then call the provider to make their reservation giving the call taker as much detail as possible, e.g., physical assistance required, special physical accommodations, wheelchair or walker or scooter transport, guide dog transport. Most providers can give the passenger an estimate of the cost of the fare. Trip costs in excess of the travel voucher face value(s) will be the responsibility of the participant.
Service Hours & Service Areas:
Service hours and areas may vary by town and are contingent upon available providers. Prior to ordering your vouchers, please contact the transportation providers to determine if the trip request(s) can be accommodated.
